What are the keys to commercial security?

1. Burglary Alarm

The first pillar (and perhaps the most important for guarding against unwanted intrusion) is Burglary Alarms. Burglary Alarms are essential when it comes to reducing and deterring theft, vandalism, and trespassing due to the equipment which they utilize. Motion detectors, glassbreak detectors, video verification — all of these tools serve to give your facility fantastic perimeter protection. Let’s take a closer look at this technology:

  • Motion Detectors

If you’ve ever had a door open automatically at your approach, you’ve experienced a form of motion detection. However, when used in the world of commercial security, they make it harder, not easier for people to enter your facility. How do they work? There are two different types of motion detectors: active and passive. While they get the job done in different ways, both types are capable of detecting an unwanted presence on your property and notifying you immediately. Active motion detectors emit ultrasonic waves that travel around your facility and reflect back to their source. When the waves are interrupted, the motion detector triggers an alarm to notify you that someone is on your property. Passive motion detectors, on the other hand, come in the form of infrared motion detectors and photosensor motion detectors. Infrared detectors are capable of detecting heat given off by humans and animals. If an increase in temperature is detected due to this heat, an alarm will trigger. Photosensor motion detectors send out a beam of light (imagine red laser beams you might see in a spy movie). When this beam of light is interrupted, an alarm is triggered.

  • Glass-break Detectors

Windows are an easy target for burglars because, despite what you might think, the sound of glass breaking doesn’t cause much alarm to passersby unless it happens multiple times in succession. Fortunately, glass breaks at a distinct frequency. Glassbreak detectors are capable of picking out this frequency and triggering an alarm if a window or other glass entry point is broken.

2. Video (CCTV)

The second pillar of commercial security systems is all about monitoring. Burglary alarms are perfect for scaring would-be burglars off your property and alerting you to potential threats, but they don’t give you a lot of visibility — even with video verification. CCTV allows you to actually monitor what goes on in your business AND deter potential burglars with the presence of cameras. You can detect and record entry, exit, and use of your property, as well as visually identify any criminals that cause trouble in your facilities. If burglary alarms are the ears of the commercial security body, CCTV is definitely the eyes.

3. Fire Detection

So, we’ve covered external security risks to your organization, but what about internal? While we all hope we never have to deal with the unexpected disaster of a fire, they do happen. Implementing a high-quality fire detection system is the only way to ensure the safety of your employees, customers, products, and facilities, which makes our third pillar Fire Detection. While fire alarm systems are required by law, it is important to choose a system and a service provider that doesn’t just meet the requirements. For the best notification and response times, you need a partner that will consistently provide the service and maintenance you need. Here at SecurU, we offer 24/7 monitoring of your fire detection system, as well as testing and inspection to ensure that you are up to code and that everything is working the way it should. This enables us to deliver the quickest response times possible upon detection.

4. Access Control

The fourth and final pillar is one of our favorites to talk about because it can do so much for your company outside of security. Access Control allows you to manage who has access to your facilities and when through devices like key fobs, card readers, and intercom systems. Essentially, you can set permissions for different employees so only certain people can enter certain areas of your business at certain times. Access Control is essential to your security because it allows you to limit the number of people that have access to valuable products and information. If something does go missing, your list of potential suspects should be shorter than it normally would be. In addition, in the event of a robbery, a room or area of your building that only employees can enter could serve as a safe haven for customers and employees alike. Outside of security, Access Control can help you monitor the use of your property to improve facility management, and cut operating costs by reducing heat and turning off lights in areas of the building that aren’t in use during certain hours.

Get the Ultimate in Commercial Security

Each of these pillars provides an incredible amount of security on its own, but together they form a security system that is nearly impenetrable. Whether you’re interested in one or all of them, at SecurU, we have you covered.
